The 27-year-old former Disney star has confessed to purposely choosing controversial outfits in an attempt to shed her Hannah Montana persona. Rising to fame on the Disney Channel show as Miley Stewart, the normal girl with a secret pop star alter ego, she spent years trying to distance herself from that image. In 2010, Miley made a bold move both visually and musically with her single and album, Can’t Be Tamed. She made headlines that year with a risqué performance in London, solidifying her transformation from child star to independent artist.
Miley, known for her role alongside her father Billy Ray Cyrus, made a bold statement in a sleek black mini dress with daring cutout details at London’s G-A-Y nightclub. Reflecting on her performance to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her album, Miley shared with fans that she chose the dress for a specific reason.
During a fan Q&A, Miley was asked to recall her most memorable moment from that time, and she pointed to her London performance. She explained, “I intentionally chose a controversial dress that challenged norms and marked a moment when I started to truly express myself and embrace my freedom.”
“However, it also required a great deal of courage as many of those around me were convinced that I would lose all my followers and my professional success would come to an end.”
She further mentioned, “I couldn’t continue being Hannah Montana forever and that was understood by everyone, but they also didn’t want me to make a irreversible mistake.”
“I’ve been incredibly lucky to have dedicated fans (like you) who have always supported me in trying new things and growing.”
